Old Sheriff Department

OCSO Reserve Deputies

Reserve Deputies are fully sworn members of the OCSO. They serve at the discretion of the Sheriff and perform many duties within the Sheriff’s Office and in the community.

Reserves are the “Back up” for our full-time paid deputies. They serve warrants, Emergency Protective Orders, Civil Process, work Court security and perform prisoner transportation. In addition to assisting the OCSO Full-Time Deputies-Community Service is a very important role for the reserve unit.

OCSO Reserve Deputies work many charitable events, High School sports, perform car seat inspections and thumbprint children all at no charge. The unit also has a motorcycle unit which is used for parades, funerals and community events as well as an ATV unit that is used for event management, search and rescue and animal control.

The process to become a OCSO Reserve Deputy is one that will challenge the applicant and insure they have proper training before any details can be worked. A basic training class must be attended and passed with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in addition to the 40 mandated training hours and quarterly handgun qualifications.
