Sheriff Steve Sparrow

As Sheriff of Oldham County, Steve Sparrow directs a 38 member department which includes 20 full-time deputies.  Upon employment with the Oldham County Sheriff's Department, each deputy is required to undergo extensive training at the Department Of Criminal Justice in Richmond, KY.  As a certified instructor through the Department Of Criminal Justice, Sheriff Sparrow recognizes and stresses professional training for his department.

Steve Sparrow is Oldham County's chief law enforcement officer responsible for the third fastest growing county in the state of Kentucky.  Sheriff Sparrow retired from the Oldham County Police Department in 1995 after 20 years of service.  During his tenure with the OCPD, Steve was D.A.R.E. instructor in the Oldham County school system and he was the Crime Prevention Officer for the department.  He received the Medal of Valor in 1982 and was elected Officer Of The Year in 1987 by his peers.

 

Sheriff Sparrow is currently the only Sheriff ever elected in Oldham County to successfully complete a certified accredited law enforcement academy through the Department Of Criminal Justice Training.  He is also the first and only Sheriff in Oldham County to attend and graduate from the National Sheriff's Institute in Longmont, Colorado.

Sheriff Sparrow is currently serving as a member of the Kentucky Sheriff's Association Board Of Directors.  He is a member of the National Sheriff's Association, serving on the Domestic Violence and Juvenile Justice Committees at the national level.  He also serves on the Professional Committee through the Department Of Criminal Justice Training.  Locally, Steve serves as a Board Director for RoseHaven/Center For Women In Crisis, member of the La Grange Rotary Club, Oldham County Chamber Of Commerce, Board Of Elections, member of the Kentucky Association Chiefs Of Police and FOP Lodge #62.  Steve is also an active member of DeHaven Baptist Church in La Grange.
